About the event

This is a six day training course. Attendance at all six days is required for qualification.

ELSAs are Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. A vital part of any school in supporting emotional needs of children and young people. The course was designed by Sheila Burton, to build the capacity of schools to support the emotional needs of their pupils from within their own resources. This is achieved by training teaching assistants to develop and deliver individualised support programmes to meet the emotional needs of children and teenagers in their care. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed.

The Applied Psychologies ELSA training holds true to the original method and ethos of the ELSA network. Our educational psychologists will apply their professional knowledge of children’s social and emotional development to areas of need experienced by pupils. As per the requirement of the ELSA accreditation we will provide on-going professional supervision to help maintain high quality in the work undertaken by ELSAs, thereby helping to ensure safe practice for ELSAs and pupils alike.

Our Liverpool ELSA course is being delivered in person by educational psychologists Dr Dan Small and Dr Jenny Cosgrove.

This course includes six days of training, on Tuesdays starting 10th October 2023. Each day will run from 9.30am - 3.30pm at St Marie's Catholic Primary School, Northwood, Liverpool.
